The Walking Dead season 9 might be ending tonight, but the good news is that TWD fans won’t be forced to wait all summer before there’s more post-apocalyptic goodness on their screens. Fear the Walking Dead is set to return for its fifth season in early June and the first trailer for the new run is now here to give us a taste of what awaits us when the spinoff series makes a comeback.
Going by what we see above, season 5 will pick up soon after the last season left off. Morgan Jones, who joined the show from TWD, is now very much the head of the group and is leading them on an altruistic mission of helping out those who are in need or lost. Lennie James’ character might have others’ best interests at heart, but it’s a hash world out there and Morgan and co. will soon encounter some new threats and challenges.
There is good news, though. The trailer reveals that Ruben Blades will return to the show as Daniel Salazar, who was last seen in the season 3 finale, which left his fate up in the air. What’s more, the promo also gives us our first look at Austin Amelio on the show. The former Walking Dead star will be following Lennie James over to the spinoff from the parent series as ex-Savior Dwight makes his way south.
For more, here’s the official plot summary:
“Heading into season 5 of Fear the Walking Dead, the group’s mission is clear: locate survivors and help make what’s left of the world a slightly better place. With dogged determination, Morgan Jones leads the group with a philosophy rooted in benevolence, community and hope. Each character believes that helping others will allow them to make up for the wrongs of their pasts.
But trust won’t be easily earned. Their mission of helping others will be put to the ultimate test when our group finds themselves in unchartered territory, one which will force them to face not just their pasts but also their fears. It is only through facing those fears that the group will discover an entirely new way to live, one that will leave them forever changed.”
Other cast changes include Alexa Nisenson being promoted from recurring to regular for her role as Charlie. Karen David is also signing up in a regular role to play someone named Grace.
Fear the Walking Dead returns to AMC on Sunday, June 2nd. In the meantime, let us know your thoughts on the season 5 trailer in the comments section down below.
