Now that Batwoman has been formally introduced into the Arrowverse, it seems like the already existing shows are dropping as many references to Batman as they can. Still, the Dark Knight himself remains off limits for The CW, but it’s nice knowing that corner of the DC Universe has been opened up to them in some capacity. Maybe it’s just me, but establishing such a thing and forever keeping it devoid of the Trinity is like looking at an incomplete puzzle.
Just in case you had a glimmer of hope though, reality is here yet again to stomp on it like a bothersome ember. Don’t forget, both the Bruce Wayne and Batman personas have been missing for three years, and we’re now being given yet another affirmation when it comes to seeing neither of them on Kate Kane’s show. Executive producer Sarah Schechter told the following to The Wrap, which actually does align with the already established storyline:
“It’s a post-Batman Gotham City. What is it like after these heroes leave?”
Exploring the possibility from that standpoint is quite intriguing. And as Schechter continued with her explanation, I found myself admitting this Bat-embargo does allow for Batwoman herself to thrive without a bigger shadow looming over her:
“Batman is missing. What does that do when your heroes are gone and who steps into that void? What’s great about the restriction of just focusing on Batwoman is that we have to build a world for our character. It’s a character that people don’t really know.”
If there’s another positive takeaway from all this, it’s that many villains will likely be freed up for use on Batwoman because Fox’s Gotham will have aired its series finale by the time The CW’s effort debuts. Granted, some may still be off the table because Matt Reeves will want to include them in his Batman movie, but it’d be foolish to think that Alice will be the only foe Kate battles.
