HBO’s fantasy flagship, Game of Thrones, has already fired up production on its eighth and final season, but it’s fair to say that the star-studded adaptation developed a reputation for (gratuitous?) nudity and sex scenes during its early years.
That’s something Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) has addressed before, and after seven seasons, the actress still struggles to see why so many viewers insist on making a big deal out of Thrones‘ nude scenes: “People fuck for pleasure, it’s part of life.” Say it louder for the people at the back.
Indeed, that quote from Clarke came during her recent interview with Harpers Bazaar (via The Independent), where she compared Thrones‘ adult content with that of The Handmaid’s Tale – incidentally, the latter recently won an Emmy for Best Drama Series.
I’m starting to get really annoyed about this stuff now because people say, ‘Oh, yeah, all the adult sites went down when Game of Thrones came back on.’ I’m like, The Handmaid’s Tale? I f***ing love that show, and I cried when it ended because I couldn’t handle not seeing it. That is all sex and nudity. There are so many shows centered around this very true fact that people reproduce. People f**k for pleasure, it’s part of life.
Following the revelations of season 7’s finale, “The Dragon and the Wolf,” Dany is poised for a huge arc in the show’s last act. After all, there’s a Night King marching on the Seven Kingdoms, and we can’t wait to see what showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have up their collective sleeve.
HBO is expected to stage Game of Thrones‘ six-part swan song sometime in 2019. Up next for Emilia Clarke is the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story in May of 2018, whose first teaser is expected to drop in and around the same timeframe as The Last Jedi.
