Ever since Tyler Hoechlin debuted as the Arrowverse’s version of Superman during Supergirl‘s second season, fans have argued the potential for a spinoff. On the one hand, there’s nothing wrong with him sporadically surfacing because it is his onscreen cousin’s show, after all. But on the other, the world of TV doesn’t go for very long without some sort of prime time show headlined by Kal-El himself.
Given that, there’s been much hoopla surrounding the Man of Steel’s return to The CW via the “Elseworlds” crossover which we’re currently in the midst of. Actually, rumor of Hoechlin getting a spinoff of his own began swirling last month, though it was swiftly shot down with a Kryptonite bullet.
Still, we shouldn’t give up hope, as actress Elizabeth Tulloch, whom you may know better as the latest woman to be given the honor of playing Lois Lane, said the following to TV Line when asked if the crossover has laid the groundwork for a series starring her and Hoechlin:
“Potentially, and it was something I sort of talked to one of the producers about. I think it’ll depend on how this is reviewed and a bunch of other external factors that nobody has really that much control over. I know Tyler and I would love to come back and work more together. We fortunately had great chemistry, which is not always a given.”
Having read the above statement, I’d say the fact that Tulloch and the producers have talked about such a project means it’s not off the table. I guess as long as viewers keep reacting well to these takes on the characters, anything’s possible.
Of course, their efforts were greatly assisted by the nostalgia factor. If you tuned in last night, then you’re aware of how the location used for Smallville‘s Kent farm made a comeback, not to mention Remy Zero’s main title theme. Oh, the memories…
In the meantime, be sure to tune in for the rest of the “Elseworlds” event, which continues tonight on Arrow, then wraps up tomorrow night on Supergirl.
