The Thirteenth Doctor is ready for her close-up – Entertainment Weekly’s special Comic-Con issue has been revealed, and it places Doctor Who season 11 front and center.
Promising new intel on Shazam!, Bumblebee, Glass and Star Trek Discovery, EW’s double issue is headed to store shelves tomorrow, July 13th, meaning there will be plenty of time to pore over all the juicy Doctor Who content before BBC stages its own SDCC showcase next week.
As for Jodie Whittaker, she’s ready to fill the boots of Peter Capaldi, who bid adieu to the legendary sci-fi series during last year’s delightful festive treat, “Twice Upon a Time,” which, incidentally, brought forth our first peek at Whittaker as the titular Time Lord.
Her first words? “Aw, brilliant,” which adequately captures our reaction to EW’s Who-themed cover art:
Incoming showrunner Chris Chibnall also stressed that, following Peter Capaldi’s bittersweet departure, the time was right for the show’s first female Doctor:
I just felt the time was right. I think if the show hadn’t done it, we would have been behind the world, and Doctor Who has got to be out front leading the world, and being a great example of all the amazing things that are in the world. So, it wasn’t even a question in my mind.
Also starring Bradley Walsh, Mandip Gill, and Tosin Cole, Doctor Who season 11 has been earmarked for an October premiere on the BBC. Closer to home, the network’s sci-fi flagship is expected to swing by San Diego Comic-Con next week, when Hall H will play host to a special Whovian panel on Thursday, July 19th.
