Disney’s relentless penny-pinching claims the life of a spin-off that hadn’t even been officially announced yet

The cost-cutting measures in effect at every major streaming service have caused much consternation and indignation among subscribers, with Disney now reaching the point where it finds the need to cancel spin-offs that haven’t even officially been announced yet.

Having removed sci-fi blockbuster Crater just seven weeks after it premiered, purged upwards of 50 titles from the content library, and excised many of them from all of its affiliate platforms, you’d have thought things couldn’t get any more ruthless.

However, The Wrap has revealed that not even Pixar is safe, with a planned offshoot from upcoming original Win Or Lose reportedly being axed already. The incoming episodic exclusive marks the animation powerhouse’s first-ever long-form series, with each installment taking a look at the life of a different character who plays on coed middle school softball team the Pickles.

It all sounds innocent and inoffensive enough, but the Mouse House apparently still isn’t willing to pull the trigger on an offshoot. A follow-up was said to be in active development behind the scenes, but the penny-pinching has now seen it put on the back burner. It may not be a goodbye forever, but it’s certainly a farewell for now at the very least.

Pixar seems to have been hit harder than most Disney subsidiaries recently after Turning Red, Soul, and Luca all skipped theaters while Onward, Lightyear, and Elemental all bombed at the box office, so you’ve got to imagine the team won’t be too surprised that they’ve been placed right in the firing line again.
