In keeping with the theme of the year, Disney Plus has debuted another widely-acclaimed fantasy epic on streaming without bothering to let anybody know, which could potentially spell bad news for Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire, at least if recent history is any indication.
The Afrofuturist anthology series of animated short films debuted just 24 hours ago if you can believe it, although there’s no shame in admitting if you had no idea. After all, in eerie echoes of American Born Chinese – itself a culturally-specific blockbuster episodic offering that won rave reviews from critics – the might of the Mouse House’s marketing machine was nowhere to be found.
Maybe if the Mouse House spent more time reminding subscribers that it was putting out content worth watching instead of irritating them to no end by removing it without warning and casting it into the vast depths of streaming purgatory, then Kizazi Moto would at least have a fighting chance of capturing the widest possible audience.
Instead, the penny-pinching must continue, and there’s already widespread confusion sweeping social media after folks only just realized that the sensational and entirely unique exclusive is even a thing that exists, which does nothing but underline the calamitous approach to its on-demand platform that’s been characterizing Disney at every turn recently.
You’d best binge Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire at your earliest convenience, then, because there won’t be a single surprised face to be found if months or even weeks from now it ends up as the latest casualty on the streamer’s ever-expanding roster of originals that were never given the chance to become a hit.
