David Duchovny Would Be “More Than Happy” To Play Agent Mulder Again For The X-Files Return

Over the past few years it seemed more likely that the next incarnation of The X-Files would come in the form of a third feature film, but it looks to be that, should things go according to plan, Mulder and Scully's next outing will be on the medium where it all began.

Over the past few years, it seemed more likely that the next incarnation of The X-Files would come in the form of a third feature film, but it looks to be that, should things go according to plan, Mulder and Scully’s next outing will be on the medium where it all began.

Chatter of a return to TV returned to the fore only a few days ago, when Fox CEO Gary Newman touched upon the possibility of resurrecting the seminal supernatural show back for a new season, stating that he was “hopeful of being able to bring it back at some point.”

Now, chances of a revival have been buoyed by David Duchovny (AKA Agent Mulder himself), who spoke of his eagerness to return to the show in an interview with USA Today.

Here’s what the actor had to say on the matter, stating that he would be…

“…more than happy and excited to bring it back and do it again with [co-star] Gillian and [series creator] Chris [Carter].” He added, “I’m assuming that it will happen sooner rather than later now.”

There is a caveat to that commitment, however, as Duchovny noted that he would only sign on for a limited amount of episodes.

“We’ll see what form, how many (episodes),” he said. “Certainly I can’t nor would I be interested in doing a full season. It will be in some kind of limited form. We’re all old, we don’t have the energy for a full season.”

Ultimately, it appears as though the fate of The X-Files revival comes down to the quality of the script. If Duchovny is indeed on board, it’s hard to imagine that Gillian Anderson would pass on the opportunity to reprise her role as Agent Scully, even if it is only for a limited stint.
