It’s been a dark time for fans of Marvel’s Netflix series of late. In a move that would make Thanos proud of the company’s execs, the number of MCU shows on the streaming service has been almost halved with the cancellation of both Iron Fist and Luke Cage. Since then, fans have been worried that the ax will fall on the rest of the series: The Punisher, Jessica Jones and, of course, Daredevil.
Season 3 of Matt Murdock’s show proved to be a critical smash and an instant fan favorite, but from what we understand, it didn’t peak the interest of Netflix users in the way the streaming service was no doubt hoping. As such, folks are now worried it may not be renewed, but it seems there’s no reason to fear, as showrunner Erik Oleson has already pitched his vision for the next run of the series to Netflix bosses. That doesn’t mean it’s 100% happening, of course, but as he says on Twitter, he’s got his fingers crossed.
Oleson joined the show for season 3, after Steven S. DeKnight helmed season 1 and Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez took over for season 2. The storyline he came up with – a light adaptation of comic book arc “Born Again,” which featured Kingpin rising into power once more, Matt Murdock at his lowest ebb and the origins of Bullseye – might have been the most exciting one that Daredevil‘s produced to date, so hopefully he managed to impress Netflix with his ideas for the next run.
If a fourth season’s commissioned, it’ll be interesting to see where things go from here. Star Charlie Cox has admitted he doesn’t know what would come next for his character now that he’s got his personal life in order and he’s defeated his nemesis Wilson Fisk. Clearly, though, Oleson has found an exciting new path for Matt to go down in Daredevil season 4, but will Netflix dig it? I guess we’ll find out soon, but in the meantime, be sure to keep those fingers crossed.
