Arrow is ending with its eighth season this year, but the Arrowverse will continue to thrive without it. In fact, as one door closes another one opens because Batwoman is joining the DC shared universe when her own show launches this fall. And the expansion of the franchise won’t finish there, either, as The CW has revealed plans for an additional Arrowverse series to debut in the 2020/21 season.
When speaking at the Television Critics Association, The CW president Mark Pedowitz was asked whether there was any chance of an Arrow spinoff happening. He admitted that’s a possibility, but the main thing on the network’s radar is this mystery new property set to arrive next year.
Here’s how TV Line’s Vlada Gelman, who was in attendance, summed up his comments:
CW prez on potential #Arrow 2040 spinoff: There's possibility, but we haven't fully had the discussion about that one way or another. Right now there's another property that we're looking at for next season. #TCA19

There’s been a lot of hope from fans that the adventures of Team Arrow could continue in some form in a spinoff, with a popular idea being giving Katherine McNamara’s Blackstar her own vehicle to further explore the world of Star City 2040. It doesn’t seem out of the question that this could happen eventually, but it sounds like The CW has something else that they’re more excited about right now.
Exactly what this property is, though, we’ve got no idea. The ones we’ve got tend to occupy their own spaces – e.g. Legends of Tomorrow featuring time travel, Supergirl dealing with extraterrestrial threats, The Flash tackling metahumans, etc. – so maybe we should look at what’s not being covered currently to work it out. How about a supernatural series, then, that digs deep into the occult side of the DC universe?
Arrow‘s 10-episode season 8 kicks off on October 15th and is set to wrap up in January, following the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover. In the meantime, let us know if you have any ideas on what the next Arrowverse show could be in the comments section down below.
