While NBC hasn’t officially renewed Community for a fourth season, producer Russ Dransoff is certain the cult comedy series will return for the 2012-2013 line-up. He stated at this year’s Paley Fest that he and his fellow producers are confident about the show being saved from cancellation.
Screen Rant is reporting that Dransoff added that NBC officials love Community, further adding hope that the show will be renewed. But since noting is definite yet, fans are trying to save the series by showing their support on social media websites, including Twitter and Facebook. Fans have created such hastags as #SaveCommunity and #SixSeasonsAndAMovie. The cast of the show has even joined the ploy, by releasing a mock PSA for Greendale Community College, with the help of CollegeHumor.
The third season of Community, which is currently on hiatus, will resume on Thursday, March 15 at 8pm. However, fans will be surprised when one character dies sometime within the remaining episodes. Main actor Joel McHale said at Paley Fest that the character is someone who has had a big presence. Let the speculation begin!
One of Community‘s executive producers, Neil Goldman, is rightfully urging the fans to continue showing their support for the show.
We need you guys again. You’ll get to see these next 12 episodes, but continue to spread that word and be loud. Twitter is great, but sometimes we think it’s preaching to the converted. I don’t know that we’ll ever be able to reach those eight families who have Nielsen boxes, but keep it up.
While NBC and the dedicated fans love Community, that may not be enough to save the struggling show. Fans of such cult favorites as Jericho and Firefly can all attest to the fact if lower-rated shows don’t have an extreme amount of support, they’ll never be able to survive. Community certainly has enough wit and laughs to survive, and air several more seasons but will fans get thief wish?
