Whenever I think I can’t be any more hyped for another season of Arrow, a trailer such as the one screened over the weekend at San Diego Comic-Con drops. I say that because, aside from seeing Oliver Queen adjust to life behind bars, we now have someone else running running around Star City in full Green Arrow regalia – and I really do believe it’s Roy Harper.
If proven correct, my theory would align with recent news saying Roy will be acting as a hero in a different way come this fall, a notion that actor Colton Haynes damn near corroborated while speaking with ComicBook.com at SDCC:
“I got a call from Greg Berlanti, and he said ‘Hey’. I was shooting [American] Horror Story at the time. And he said ‘If you want to come back, you’re welcome to come back. We have a great idea.’ And it’s the craziest idea. Roy Harper’s coming back in a way that no one is going to understand. It’s amazing, and I was like ‘I can’t wait to be around my friends and my family!’ And so I, of course, jumped at that opportunity.”
Now, even if things pan out in the way I think, it’s still hard to map out all of the specifics. As Haynes continued though, he made sure to increase our intrigue levels even more:
“You guys have no idea what’s happening with Roy Harper. It’s a crazy storyline, I can say. It’s nothing like he’s been before. It’s going to shock [so many people]. I’m shocked right now. It’s going to shock a lot of people. Roy’s not the same person. I can’t say much, but we’re returning back to our roots on the show. Not the characters, but the show — We’re going back to how we were a couple of seasons ago. But it’s going to just be so good. Beth Schwartz, our new show runner, is just — She’s a dream. She’s changing everything and she’s making everything the way I think the show was at the beginning.”
Of course, Oliver will have to reclaim the mantle at some point, but it’d be nice to see Roy resettle into his old role of Arsenal once that happens. In fact, one can only hope the costuming department is drawing up some badass new suits for both as we speak. Really, changes in attire prove to be one of the topics that get superhero lovers talking most, so fingers remain crossed.
Arrow returns for its seventh season on Monday, October 15 on The CW.
