We’ve been hearing quite a bit about Marvel and Freeform’s small screen adaptation of Cloak and Dagger recently, though hardly any of it has actually been officially confirmed just yet. Still, solid sources report that Beyond the Lights director Gina Prince-Bythewood is set to helm the pilot episode, and just last night we heard on good authority that the lead roles of Tyrone Johnson and Tandy Bowen had been cast. Now, we can add some more unconfirmed, but most likely accurate details.
Over the past couple of weeks, That Hashtag Show has debuted character breakdowns for the likes of The Inhumans and New Mutants, and now they reckon they’ve uncovered the descriptions for the two young heroes of Cloak and Dagger:
Tara – Female, 18 to play 17, Caucasian. Tara was a plucky southern girl who grew up with everything. She was always full of light. Then an accident took away everything. Now she’s a cynic who steals from tourists to make ends meet. Life took from her. She’s going to take back. But can that light be rekindled? Series Lead.
Travis – Male. 18 to play 17. African American. When Travis was a little boy he was fearless. But then he made a mistake and it cost him dearly. So Travis grew up in a fear. Scared of a world he couldn’t control. So he controlled what he could. Keeping his head down, focusing on school and basketball. Locking in on fear. But is that brave boy still in there? Series Lead.
As is the norm, the characters’ identities have been hidden, but it seems pretty obvious who these guys are supposed to be. That said, Marvel does seem to have switched things up a little, as in the comics it’s Ty that’s the petty criminal living on the streets. One fateful night he encounters Tandy and considers robbing her, but the pair then wind up being experimented on and gain fantastic powers of light and darkness. It’ll be interesting to see if the show follows suit.
Cloak and Dagger is set to commence production in New Orleans next month, so we should be getting some kind of official announcement pretty soon. Until then, sound off down below and let us know what you make of Marvel’s upcoming series so far.
