If you’ve ever stopped to ponder the murky backstory of Bryan Mills, Liam Neeson’s gruff CIA agent famed for mowing down terrorists and nerve-wracking phone calls, you’ll be pleased to hear that NBC will soon dish out the answers. For on February 27, 2017, the network will premiere its Taken prequel series, an action-packed spinoff that ushers in Clive Standen (Vikings, Everest) as the young Bryan Mills.
Exploring his formative years as a hardboiled agent, up above you’ll be able to see how that particular set of skills came to be, as Standen’s hero is drafted into the CIA following a personal tragedy. Every hero has a beginning, according to the show’s official tagline, and though it may stand as another textbook example of a prequel series that no one really asked for – think Minority Report or A&E’s brief horror show Damien – there’s reason to be hopeful for NBC’s Taken.
[zergpaid]Barring those fleeting rumors of a Taken 4, Liam Neeson’s tenure as Bryan Mills is all but over, and the network has recruited some exciting talent to help flesh out this new interpretation of Luc Besson’s one-man-army. For instance, Alexander Cary of Homeland fame penned the screenplay, while Alex Graves (Game of Thrones) is attached to helm the pilot episode.
On the other side of the lens, Clive Standen will be flanked by Jennifer Beals, Gaius Charles, Monique Gabriela Curnen, James Landry Hebert, Michael Irby, Brooklyn Sudano, Jose Pablo Cantillo and Simu Liu.
