Based on the return of Jeffrey Dean Morgan as John Winchester alone, one could certainly say that Supernatural‘s 300th episode has a lot going for it. After all, we’ve been waiting for his comeback since season 2 concluded – and that was twelve years ago!
Still, it’d be foolish to assume him to be the only ace the producers have up their sleeve for the milestone. Believe it or not, someone who once proved to be an incredible thorn in the sides of Sam and Dean will also be along for the ride, and Entertainment Weekly recently coughed up their identity.
According to the publication, Kurt Fuller will reprise his role of Zachariah, the a–hole of an angel who met his end during the 100th episode, “Point of No Return.” Granted, we’ve seen a variation of the character much more recently than season 5 (Chad Rook stepped up to the plate for that last year, don’t forget), but that was a doppelganger from an alternate universe.
Unfortunately, no specifics regarding the reason behind his homecoming were given. If I were to hazard an educated guess though, he may join Castiel in a rather exclusive club of slain angels to return from the Empty. Hey, it very much looks like Lucifer is on his way back from there, so why not bring Zachariah along with him?
The 300th episode, “Lebanon,” airs on February 7th. But if you’d like to know more about what the immediate future holds, here’s the official synopsis for the midseason premiere, “Nihilism”:
Michael has re-taken control of Dean (Jensen Ackles) as his army of monsters continues to move in on our heroes. Sam (Jared Padalecki) devises a plan to try and reach Dean and stop Michael before anyone else has to die.
Supernatural returns with new episodes on Thursday, January 17th on The CW.
