And so, after this morning conjured up an action shot of the show’s leading ladies – namely Sonequa Martin-Green (First Officer Michael Burnham) and Michelle Yeoh (Captain Philippa Georgiou) – scoping out an arid, Martian-like planet, CBS has now debuted the rip-roaring first trailer for Discovery, which you’ll be able to find up above. It’s a suitably tantalizing tease of the network’s rebooted Star Trek TV series – the first since Enterprise bowed off the airwaves in 2005, no less – and as if that wasn’t enough, it’s also been confirmed that the show’s first season will run for 15 episodes in total, as opposed to the original arc of 13. A companion series, entitled Talking Trek, is on the cards, too.

Currently filming its sixth installment, Star Trek: Discovery will feature a “new ship, new characters and new missions, while embracing the same ideology and hope for the future that inspired a generation of dreamers and doers.”

Initially hatched by Bryan Fuller and Alex Kurtzman (The Mummy), Star Trek: Discovery has since appointed Gretchen J. Berg and Aaron Harberts as co-showrunners – Fuller stepped down due to his ongoing commitment to Starz’s American Gods series – and after multiple delays and allegations of creative differences behind the scenes, we’re now so close to Discovery‘s premiere that we can almost feel the crackle of energy emanating from the ship’s transporter pods. Will it be worth the prolonged wait? Only time will tell.

Expect Star Trek: Discovery to bow via CBS later this year before making the jump across to CBS All Access exclusive, where all 15 episodes will unfold. In light of today’s grand reveal, though, what’s your knee-jerk reaction to the network’s bold reboot? Do let us know below.
