Originally one of Jack Bauer’s closest allies in 24 before his apparent demise, Tony Almeida returned from the dead as a villain only for it to later be revealed that he was working undercover in a bid to exact revenge on the organisation responsible for the murder of his wife. Going off book, Tony broke a lot of laws in his quest for vengeance and ultimately ended up behind bars.
However, much to the surprise of fans everywhere, a short movie included with the home release of 24: Live Another Day revealed that Tony had been given the chance to escape captivity, setting up a possible return for the character somewhere down the line. Well, we now know that he’ll return in upcoming spinoff series 24: Legacy.
Details on what Tony will be up to there have yet to be revealed, but 24: Legacy showrunners Manny Coto and Evan Katz had this to say about bringing him back:
“Tony Almeida is one of the most indelible personalities in the 24 universe, at times loyal and loving, other times an utterly amoral, ruthless mercenary. Carlos Bernard has done an amazing job portraying this dark and conflicted character, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with his return to the show.”
As of right now, it’s still unclear whether or not Kiefer Sutherland will be making a cameo appearance as Bauer, but Tony’s return should be more than enough to win back fans sceptical about this new take on the franchise, which looks set to revolve around a former Army Ranger played by Straight Outta Compton‘s Corey Hawkins.
24: Legacy will debut after Super Bowl 51 on February 5th, next year, so stay tuned for further updates over the next few months.
