HBO just keeps collecting those Oscar nominees. Martin Scorsese, Kate Winslet, Michael Mann and now Michael Roskam. Director of last year’s Best Foreign Film contender Bullhead, Roskam is heading over to HBO to helm the pilot for Buda Bridge, a futuristic crime drama set in Brussels, according to Indie Wire.
The show sounds like pretty standard crime fare nowadays: a dead woman is found on the bridge in question and naturally this leads to more murder, death and destruction. And, apparently, some crazy sci-fi. This is the future, after all. No news yet on stars or writers, but HBO has a good track record on those too.
In other Buda Bridge news, director/producer extraordinaire Michael Mann is set to co-produce the pilot. Fresh off the not-so-hot HBO series Luck, Mann and Breaking Bad‘s Mark Johnson are going to be working with Roskam to get the drama off the ground.
Given Roskam’s off-beat brand of noir with Bullhead, Johnson’s success with Breaking Bad and Mann’s all-around producing talent, it sounds like a winning proposition. Roskam is revving up for a solid career post-Oscar nod and Mann is due for a success, so definitely keep an eye out for this one.
