It’s been a busy few weeks for Bryan Singer. After it was recently reported that he had been signed up to replace Matthew Vaughn at the helm of the forthcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past, it has now also been confirmed that he is to develop and executive produce a reboot of the iconic TV series, The Twilight Zone, for CBS.
There’s very little else known about the reboot at present but the original series, which ran from 1959-1964, produced some extremely influential paranormal stories and it will be exciting to see what a modern day re-branding can do for the franchise.
The Twilight Zone has of course already been brought back to TV screens twice before to mixed results. The 1985 revival which came in the wake of Steven Spielberg‘s Twilight Zone : The Movie project in 1983, was fairly well received and ran for three seasons. A host of household names where on board for this incarnation including writers like George R.R. Martin, directors like Wes Craven and William Friedkin and stars like Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman, Martin Landau and Fred Savage. The show was a modest success but never quite reached the heights of the original. The 2002 version, however, was received poorly and lasted just one season.
There is already a movie adaptation of The Twilight Zone in production at Warner Bros. Studios, but things seem to have gone all quiet on that front after it was announced that planned director Matt Reeves had left the project earlier this year. Singer will obviously be hoping to beat them to the punch and only time will tell which project arrives first.
Meanwhile, Singer is currently in post-production on Jack The Giant Slayer, a fantasy adventure starring Nicholas Hoult, Eleanor Thompson, Stanley Tucci, Ian McShane, Bill Nighy and Ewan McGregor which is due out in March of 2013.
Tell us, what do you think of Bryan Singer at the helm of a reboot for The Twilight Zone?
