Season three of Dave marks Brad Pitt‘s return to television as a guest star. In the latest finale of the comedy series, the Hollywood heavyweight portrays a version of himself alongside creator/star Dave Burd, aka Lil Dicky.
The Hollywood Reporter states that FX is submitting Pitt for an Emmy in the guest actor category for his performance, which was more than just a cameo and required many days of filming, much of it at night. Although the Inglourious Basterds actor has won several other awards for his work in film, including two Oscars, two BAFTAs, two Golden Globes, and a Primetime Emmy, he has yet to win an Emmy for his performance in a television series.
After first being nominated in 2002 for his iconic role as Will – Monica and Ross’s former classmate who fabricated a story about Rachel while they were in high school – on NBC’s Friends, Pitt received his second nomination in 2020 for Saturday Night Live, in which he played the comic role of Dr. Anthony Fauci. So, maybe this time, he’ll get lucky and take home a a trophy for his TV work.
FX’s Dave premiered on 4 March 2020 and centers on a fictionalized version of Lil Dicky, a suburban neurotic man in his late 20s who thinks he’s destined to be a legendary rapper. The successful comedy routinely hosts famous guests from the music industry and beyond with past features, including Doja Cat, Don Cheadle, Justin Bieber, Charlamagne the God, Marshmello, and Gunna. And, as for Pitt, whose appearance has been kept secret for months, his time on the show began with a heartfelt, personal letter from Burd.
Dave season three premiered on 5 April 2023, and the finale aired on 31 May.
