Black Sails, the Treasure Island prequel series that has enjoyed a relatively successful run on Starz, will pull into port for the final time on January 29, 2017 with the premiere of its fourth and final season.
As previously reported, the network is primed to close the book on the swashbuckling series early next year, purely because the creative team involved “couldn’t imagine anything beyond it that would make for a better ending to the story nor a more natural handoff to Treasure Island.” Such is the catch-22 with crafting prequel stories.
But don’t be fooled into thinking that the high seas drama will sail onto Starz in 2017 at half-mast – Black Sails season 4 will find our pirates doing battle in the West Indies, and it’s safe to assume that all involved will be gunning to send off the period piece on a high note, potentially even jostling for a place in next year’s Emmy awards ceremony when the time comes. It wouldn’t be the first time that Starz series has done so either, but the network’s serialized take on the Golden Age of Piracy is now fast approaching its curtain call. The fourth and final season will herald the return of Toby Stephens as Captain Flint, Hannah New as Eleanor Guthrie and Luke Arnold as John Silver.
So, there you have it; Black Sails will dock for the last time on January 29, 2017. To prepare you for the show’s final outing on Starz, the rather morbid key art can be seen below.
