The CW’s small-screen take on DC Comics superhero Black Lightning has cast British actress Christine Adams in the final lead role of the series, Lynn Stewart. She’ll be joining Cress Williams as the former titular crime-fighter, as well as Nafessa Williams and China Anne McLain as his daughters, Anissa and Jennifer – who will most likely suit up as Thunder and Lightning at some point as the show progresses.
In the comics, Lynn is Jefferson’s ex-wife, though the two maintain a good relationship. It’s not clear if that’ll carry over to the series or not, but we do know this version of the character is described as a woman “who exudes confidence and intelligence. Although she’s got a mischievous side, she’s not one to be trifled with when it comes to family.”
Adams is no stranger to the comic book/sci-fi genre, having appeared as Agent Weaver in the first two seasons of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and as William Earle’s secretary in Batman Begins. She’s also popped up in the likes of Doctor Who, TRON: Legacy, and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo – though her highest profile role to date is probably that of Kira in Fox’s Terra Nova.
Black Lightning will be written and produced by Salim Akil and Mara Brock Akil, alongside Greg Berlanti. There’s no set premiere date just yet, but an official announcement regarding that and the show’s supporting cast should be just around the corner now.
