The apocalypse has come for FX’s American Horror Story.
Ryan Murphy’s delightfully gothic anthology series is now just five weeks (and change) out from its hotly-anticipated premiere, when viewers will be able to see the worlds of “Murder House” and “Coven” collide in spectacular fashion.
Yes, the long-awaited AHS crossover event is finally – finally! – about to become a reality, and if lead star Billy Eichner is to be believed (h/t Bloody Disgusting), September’s “Apocalypse” will dial things up to 11. In a word: it’s “insane,” and the fact that Eichner is nearing the end of his own stint on season 8 leads us to believe that a trailer is imminent.
We’ll likely have to wait a little while longer before FX is ready to conjure up a new blend of madness, but this is still a pretty exciting tease in and of itself:
Just back from shooting @AHSFX. I’m not allowed to say a word but…it’s so insane. It’s just so insane #AHSApocalypse
‘Insane’ is certainly a word one would use to describe the official key art for American Horror Story season 8, which features a little red cherub (Michael?) at the mercy of a demonic, inky-black hand. If that’s the case, and the baby belongs to Vivian (Connie Britton), it’ll be interesting to discover how Ryan Murphy and his team plan to develop the original stories from “Murder House” and “Coven.”
Casting-wise, Billy Eichner is flanked by a slew of familiar faces, including Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, Joan Collins, Cheyenne Jackson, Billie Lourd, Leslie Grossman and Adina Porter. As the show’s eighth season is tinged by witchcraft, both Emma Roberts and Taissa Farmiga are expected to return, too, with Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman and Kyle Allen assuming guest roles.
American Horror Story breaks new ground for the cult anthology series on September 12th.
