Since it first burst onto television screens back in 2011, Golden Globe winning actress Sarah Paulson has been a core part of the American Horror Story anthology series. In a huge cast of 27, across seven very different seasons, only Paulson and Evan Peters have the distinction of having featured in each one. It came as little surprise, then, to learn a few months back that the actress will be involved in the upcoming eighth season. Furthermore, we’ve also heard recently that she’ll be joined by the aforementioned Peters and AHS stalwart Kathy Bates.
It’s an impressive roster of talent, to be sure, but creator Ryan Murphy isn’t done his casting spree. Far from it, in fact. And that’s because Deadline is reporting tonight that Billie Lourd, who was seen in American Horror Story: Cult, will be back for season 8 as well. Like the other actors that Murphy’s lined up, details on her role are scarce, but it’s good to know she’ll be returning regardless.
As is often the case, plot details and the like for season 8 are going to be kept under tight lock and key until much closer to the premiere, which won’t be until later this year, but persistent rumors have pointed to a post-apocalyptic setting. That remains unconfirmed, but we certainly hope there’s some truth to it.
Speaking about what to expect the other month, Murphy did let a little bit slip, telling us the following:
“[Season 8 ] is heightened [and] It’s not necessarily as real and grounded as the past season. We’re sort of getting back to Asylum, and Coven. That’s the tone of it,” said Murphy.
So, at least we have some idea of what to expect, then and with any luck, we’ll begin to see more of American Horror Story in the near future, with a premiere date either late this year or in early 2019. In the meantime, though, tell us, do you think season 8 is shaping up to be another hit outing for the beloved series? As always, have your say in the comments section down below.
