Cousins Beach is gearing up to welcome us all back for an emotional second season of The Summer I Turned Pretty, and with Belly’s greatest wish finally coming true, there’s a little slice of paradise to be uncovered when we meet the Fisher and Conklin families again in just under two weeks.
For Belly, Conrad is the sun, and his presence in her life, alongside his bright light and warmth, is everything she’s ever dreamed of; he’s everything she’s always longed for. He’s all-encompassing and passionate, and he looks at her like she’s the personification of every dream he’s never been brave enough to say out loud.
In a new teaser for the upcoming season, we see a fun and sort of humble side of Conrad, joking with Belly about her admitting she has a crush on him but knowing that he still doesn’t find himself worthy of her love and compassion.
“Being with you is all I’ve ever wanted,” Belly tells Conrad with a look of earnestness and appreciation on her face. It’s not just that Conrad is all she’s wanted all summer, not just that he’s been a high school crush. Conrad is the epitome of all of her dreams coming true. Belly has wished for Conrad on every candle, shooting star, and eyelash since she was a kid; she’s loved him since she knew what love was.
So when Conrad tells her it could be that simple, they could just be together, and that could be enough — she’s almost shocked. Is it finally happening? Is it going to be as simple as the kiss that changed everything during that fateful summer?
If you ask us, it should have been, but life often has other plans, and the trailer for season two promises that there’s more heartache on the horizon for Belly and Conrad; in fact, when Conrad looks at her and asks Jeremiah what she’s doing in their home, with disdain on his face, it’s evident that they’re going to face a lot of hardship. Conrad carries a lot of weight for a lot of people in his life, and sometimes that weight is enough to take every ounce of energy and motivation he has, leaving him with little time to explore the own desires of his heart.
For now, for us, it’s always been Belly for Conrad, and we have a feeling that the tides that try to wash these two away from one another will only end up bringing them right back where they belong in the end; looking into each other’s eyes, with snow on the beach, at the house that saw them grow up, fall in love, fall apart, and ultimately fall back into the arms of their greatest wish come true: each other.
