Batwoman Star Down To Reprise Birds Of Prey Role For Crisis On Infinite Earths

At this point, it sure is becoming difficult to sum up everything cool about the upcoming "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover event. But to briefly recap the finer points, we'll mention how both Tyler Hoechlin and Brandon Routh will suit up as different iterations of Superman, with the latter portraying the Man of Steel from the Kingdom Come timeline. And if that weren’t enough, LaMonica Garrett’s pulling double duty as the Monitor and Anti-Monitor, Elizabeth Tulloch returns as Lois Lane, Batman ’66 alum Burt Ward will show up, Black Lightning will get in on the action, and – get this – Kevin Conroy makes the leap from animation to live action as an older version of Bruce Wayne!

Though we’re not exactly sure if this next nod to DC TV’s illustrious history will play out because the producers are probably working harder to secure a Smallville alumnus of some sort, we can’t help contemplating what it’d be like to revisit Birds of Prey.

Apparently, Batwoman star Rachel Skarsten can’t refrain from doing so, either, having told BatwomanTV the following when asked if she’d reprise her role of Dinah Lance alongside Dina Meyer (Oracle) and Ashley Scott (Huntress) in “Crisis”:

“100 percent. Ashley and Dina and I, we’re still friends. We still keep in touch. And they were so kind to me when I did that show. They really took me under their wing, both of them, and I’m deeply grateful.”

If you’re in need of a refresher, I’ll point out how Skarsten’s Dinah Lance wasn’t exactly the Black Canary one would think her to be. Instead, she was a young girl with metahuman powers altogether different from a Canary Cry – but I’d assumed she’d have followed in her mother’s footsteps, had the show been renewed for a second season.

Again, I don’t see this happening, but there’s nothing saying it can’t. Hey, if Brandon Routh can play both the Atom and Superman in the Arrowverse, then it’s in no way illegal for Skarsten to likewise embody both Dinah Lance and Red Alice. Then again, Routh’s been more of a DC fixture in recent years, whereas Rachel is part of a new TV series, so there’s risk involved. One middleground, in my view, would be to bring in either Meyer or Scott to honor Birds of Prey at the very least, but it’s not up to me.

Batwoman premieres on Sunday, October 6th on The CW.
