If anything, 2019 has gotten off to a great start for fans of Kate Kane. To be more specific, not only has The CW officially ordered a pilot episode for a solo Batwoman series to be filmed, but now the supporting cast is finally being filled. Actually, only three of those slots are now occupied, though we’re sure the others will follow shortly.
As you may recall, casting breakdowns began floating around the internet last month, so we knew it wasn’t long before business picked up. And as it turns out, another cult favorite hero from DC Comics will make the jump to the live action realm in the form of Luke Fox AKA Batwing.
Previously, the only exposure outside of the printed page this fella had gotten was in animation. So, if you dug Batman: Bad Blood, then you should be jazzed to learn that Camrus Johnson (Luke Cage) will inhabit the role of Batwing. Not only that, but he’s described as being “A Dark Knight loyalist and son of Wayne’s R&D director Lucius Fox, Luke works to keep Wayne Tower secure in his boss’s absence. While Luke considers himself the guardian of all things Batman — specifically his symbol — he also recognizes the city’s need for a new hero.”
Joining the fun will be Meagan Tandy (Teen Wolf) as Sophie Moore, a gal who should be familiar to readers of Batwoman titles. If you’re in the dark, then her description should bring you up to speed, as Deadline says, “After graduating from military academy, Sophie rose through the ranks to become a high-level private security agent and one of Gotham’s staunchest protectors. Despite her bite and regimented outlook, Sophie has a soft side, illuminated by Kate Kane’s return.”
Finally, there’s Nicole Kang (You), who’ll play Mary Hamilton. This young lady sounds a lot like Bette Kane, so I’m surprised that name wasn’t used. Regardless, she’s said to be “excitable, talkative, and an influencer-in-the-making, Mary is Kate Kane’s step-sister and polar opposite. But what Mary lacks in a filter, she makes up for with her compassion for Gotham’s underserved communities, proving she has more in common with Kate than she thinks.”
Stay tuned because there are other important Batwoman roles yet to be filled. Before you know it, we should find out who’s playing Jacob Kane and Alice, the latter of whom should prove to be season 1’s big bad, so keep watching this space for more.
