After impressing audiences in recent years with “Invasion!” and “Crisis on Earth-X,” we’ve been left pondering how the producers behind the Arrowverse could possibly top those with their next effort. Fortunately, the past few months have treated us to a variety of details regarding the subject, though we didn’t know exactly how to piece them together.
To briefly reiterate, Ruby Rose will suit up as the first ever live action iteration of Batwoman, Tyler Hoechlin will return as Superman, Elizabeth Tulloch will play opposite him as Lois Lane, and Cassandra Jean Amell has been cast as Nora Fries, wife of Mr. Freeze. And if that weren’t enough, Jeremy Davies has jumped aboard as Arkham Asylum’s Dr. John Deegan, who seems to be placed in a villainous role.
In truth, we still don’t know how to assemble that puzzle, but DC just revealed on Twitter via a cool teaser image (seen below) that the crossover will be titled “Elseworlds,” a nod to their line of books consisting of fan favorites such as Batman: Gotham by Gaslight, Superman: Red Son and Kingdom Come, each of which provided alternate takes on their greatest of icons. It’s pretty much been replaced by the new Black Label imprint, but the legacy lives on through television.
Right now, we imagine that more questions are being asked by viewers who’ve already been wondering from which Earth Batwoman originates. The most common theory suggested that she takes up residence on Earth-38, Supergirl’s home, but now it appears that she could be from somewhere else entirely. That said, Cisco Ramon had better be ready to breach like he never has before.
Now that the cat’s out of the bag, it should be only a matter of time before The CW reveals the plot to “Elseworlds” via some major news outlet, so we encourage you to keep watching this space as more develops.
This fall’s Arrowverse crossover begins on Sunday, December 9 with The Flash, continues on Monday, December 10 with Arrow, and wraps up on Tuesday, December 11 with Supergirl.
