The adventures of Oliver Queen are soon to end as Arrow reaches its eighth and final season this fall. However, whether by accident or design, season 7 of the show came up with a way for the Green Arrow corner of the Arrowverse to be continued following the Emerald Archer’s exit. Flash-forwards were introduced in the season, exploring the next generation of heroes protecting Star City in the year 2040.
Fans have gotten very hungry for a spinoff featuring Katherine McNamara’s Mia Smoak AKA Blackstar, daughter of Oliver and Felicity, ever since season 7 wrapped up. But could it actually happen? Well, the good news is that it’s definitely being discussed behind the scenes. However, it doesn’t look like it’s a particularly high priority at present, what with the network developing a new Arrowverse property for the 2020/21 season.
So, how are fans taking this news? Well, there are conflicting responses online. A thread on the Arrow subreddit saw viewers share their thoughts on the idea, with some for it and others against.
“Two words,” said one user. “No thanks!!!”
“Why can’t people just let the show end?” wrote another.
On the other hand, many were excited by the potential for such a spinoff. One user commented “contrary to a lot of fans on this sub, I’d be down for it,” explaining that they were won over by the flash-forwards as they continued.
“2 words. Hell yes,” said another. They even went on to suggest that Kevin Conroy – fresh from his “Crisis on Infinite Earths” cameo – could appear as Bruce Wayne to train up the young heroes. Now wouldn’t that be something?
While we wait for more news on if this spinoff will happen, the flash-forwards look to continue in season 8. McNamara has been bumped up to regular for Arrow‘s last season, as has Ben Lewis as her half-brother William Clayton. The same goes for Joseph David-Jones as Connor Hawke, with Charlie Barnett joining the cast John Diggle Jr.
Arrow season 8 premieres Tuesday, October 15th on The CW. In the meantime, share with us whether you want a Star City 2040 spinoff in the comments section below.
