While Marvel’s first foray into television, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., may not have been quite the success that everyone was hoping for, ABC isn’t giving up on the studio just yet. With Agents slowly improving as the series goes on, there’s a good chance the network will pick the show up for a second season, and rumor has it that another Marvel series may come along with it.
Of course, I’m talking about Agent Carter, which Deadline reports may be nearing a series order. The show will reportedly forgo a pilot order and begin this winter, while Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is on hiatus between the fall and spring.
Based on the Marvel One-Shot of the same name, Agent Carter will presumably take place in the early days of S.H.I.E.L.D., after the events of Captain America: The First Avenger. The short film focused on Carter dealing with sexism and hunting down the Zodiac, and it was one of the most enjoyable One-Shots to date.
Peggy Carter wass perhaps the best female character that we’ve seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far, and it was a shame to see her character get lost in time after the events of The First Avenger. Giving her the chance to shine in a series of her own is a great idea and it would also give Marvel the opportunity to explore the beginnings of S.H.I.E.L.D. and examine how some of the major plot twists in Captain America: The Winter Soldier began to take shape.
As of right now, both Agent Carter and the second season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. are still up in the air, but we’ll let you know when ABC makes an official announcement.
