Dominating cinemas with the most popular movies of the last decade just isn’t enough for some people, hence Marvel’s decision to expand their cinematic universe into the realm of TV. Neither Agent Carter or Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. were received as well as hoped, although I hear that S.H.I.E.L.D. isn’t a complete piece of crap if you stick with it through the first few episodes. Fortunately though, if you don’t have the patience for it, things look set to improve now that Marvel has struck a deal with Netflix to produce new comic book based content.
First up is Daredevil, a popular Marvel character who deserved a second chance after his shambles of a movie disappointed the blind hero’s legion of fans, prompting many to wish that they were temporarily blind themselves. After Daredevil, Netflix subscribers have even more shows to look forward to, including A.K.A. Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist, before the heroes are all combined into one super team known as The Defenders.
Depending on the success of this venture, it seems likely that Marvel will continue to produce more TV shows based off properties that aren’t renowned or popular enough yet for the big screen. What this means is that beloved cult characters who would never have a chance in cinemas are finally seeing the light of day in an easily accessible format that’s perfect for binge watching… unless of course you aren’t a Netflix subscriber. In that case, sign up now for some potentially awesome Marvel based content and remember to tell them who sent you! How else are they going to send me all those cheques?
