1) Elektra
As the most well known character on this list, Elektra’s inclusion at the top may not surprise those who kept clicking through to the end, but understandably, your opinion of the female assassin may be mixed.
On the one hand, Elektra is an integral part of Daredevil’s story and eventually stepped out of his shadow to become one of the most popular female characters in Marvel. However, Jennifer Garner’s portrayal of Elektra was lacklustre at best and her solo movie helped set back super heroine movies by another decade, continuing the tradition of shite movies started by Supergirl and Catwoman.
It makes sense then that the Daredevil showrunners want to establish Murdock as a hero in his own right first, but eventually, Elektra must make an appearance. Excluding her from Daredevil’s story would be akin to never seeing the Joker in the Batman movies and her inclusion could lead to a number of iconic storylines making their way to the small screen.
An appearance from Elektra would certainly rock the boat romantically between Murdock and Karen Page, but the real reason that the ninja assassin tops this list is that a successful portrayal of Elektra could redeem the terrible solo movie and even help reinvigorate general interest in super heroines.
With the first Wonder Woman movie on the horizon and a Captain Marvel film coming soon, super powered ladies are finally increasing their profile. We’re still a long way from gender equality in the superhero stakes and it’s debatable whether you could even call Elektra a ‘hero,’ but her appearance in the Daredevil TV show could have a huge impact on both the quality of the program and live action superhero projects in general.
