Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs and Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarcus Ware were named the co-winners of the 4th annual Butkus Award, which honors the best linebackers in each of three levels; High School, College, and Professional. It is the second time Ware has won, as he won the first ever professional Butkus Award in 2008.
Both Suggs and Ware were lauded for their overall linebacker play, but both made their name terrorizing quarterbacks. In 2011 Suggs had 14 sacks with 7 forced fumbles and Ware was 2nd in the NFL with 19.5 sacks.
Third place in the Pro category was Denver Broncos rookie Von Miller, who won the collegiate Butkus award last year. This years collegiate winner was Luke Kuechly of Boston College and the High School winner was Noor Davis of Leesburg High School in Florida.
