There are currently rumors swirling about a potential sequel to the live-action Pokémon movie, Detective Pikachu, and the hot one right now is that Will Smith could possibly be in it. While this is all just speculation, it didn’t stop fans from letting their imagination run wild as they figure out who he could play in the video game movie.

Over on the r/MovieLeaksAndRumors subreddit, fans began to speculate who Smith could play in the sequel if it were to happen. Fortunately, the choices are endless since there are a lot of characters in the Pokémon universe that Smith could play. Albeit, they’re not human characters, but hey, the man once played a cyber-augmented cop in I, Robot, and a fish in the Dreamworks film, Shark Tale.

People suggested that Smith could use his “combat” talents to play various fighting type Pokémon like Machamp, Hitmochan, or Aipom. I mean, this was a film where we heard some Pokémon speak with words rather than communicate with their names. So it’s pretty fitting, especially if you consider past events. After all, the franchise has also notable legendary Pokémon that are fighting types. I’m thinking someone like Buzzwole from Pokémon Sun and Moon would be perfect for an Oscar-winning actor.

Regardless of what role he’s going to get, fans are excited to see Ryan Reynold‘s Pikachu get beaten up by whoever Smith ends up playing, because, well, you know. After all, this tough Pokémon was able to go against a Charizard and a powerful Mewtwo in the first film. Big doubt he’s going to be outmatched by other tough critters out there.

A sequel for Detective Pikachu was first reported by Deadline back in March 2023. It claimed that the sequel to the 2019 hit will have a new director and screenwriter involved. However, it’s currently unknown if any of the original cast members will make a return in the film’s potential next installment. However, it would be funny if the filmmakers approached Smith the same way they did with Reynolds, with a CGI Pokémon overlayed with lines Smith has said in the past.

So before you all get excited about Pikachu facing off whatever Pokémon Smith ends up playing, Detective Pikachu is available to stream on Hulu.
