When it comes to Wednesday, fans think there is a real-life monster between all the fictional ones on set. Shortly after the Netflix hit premiered, allegations emerged against star Percy Hynes White and calls for him to be removed from the show rage on.
Fans of the project and foes of the Canadian entertainer who has yet to be charged with anything overtook the above post on the show’s official Instagram account today. Of the comments visible, most feature the #CancelPercy and #CancelPercyHynesWhite hashtags, and one commenter accused Netflix of supporting the rumors of sexual assault surrounding the entertainer with their silence.
White has been alleged to have assaulted women in Toronto between the ages of 17-20, has limited comments on his social media accounts in response to the situation and, while the discourse fire may burn itself out eventually, those wanting him gone have gotten his name to trend multiple times on Twitter and it did so again today, with one user calling him a coward in a post.
For now, what will come next remains to be seen. Though Wednesday is getting a second season and White’s character is alive at the end of the initial run of episodes, he could always be written out, recast or become unseen, at least for a little while anyway. Netflix has not responded to the campaign to oust him from the project, and so far, none of his castmates have decided to, either. He continues to book other projects at this time and will appear next with Jenna Ortega in a movie called Winter Spring Summer or Fall. On Instagram, he has gone completely dark over the last four weeks, and, seems to not be receiving critical comments, now.
