We’re still a few months out from the upcoming two weekend edition of Tomorrowland, but the major festival has already revealed its theme for 2017. Each year, the Boom, Belgium based event issues a theme that sets the mood for that particular iteration of Tomorrowland. Last year’s theme was “The Elixir of Life,” keeping in line with the mystical branding we’ve come to expect, and for 2017, the theme will be “Amicorum Spectaculum.”
For those of us who don’t speak Latin, Amicorum Spectaculum translates loosely to something along the lines of “spectacle of friends,” with amicorum meaning friend or loved one, while spectaculum is defined as a show or spectacle. Judging from the artwork Tomorrowland shared with the announcement, this would seem to hold true. The image we’re presented with is in the style of an old-timey woodcut, depicting a circus or carnival scene adorned with the festival’s logo.
The new theme is consistent with what we’ve come to expect from Tomorrowland, and the circus motif certainly presents some interesting possibilities when it comes to the stage production. We’ll have to wait a bit longer to get a better idea of where the festival is going with “Amicorum Spectaculum,” but we’re intrigued to say the least.
