Unless you watch A Million Little Things, chances are you haven’t heard much from Chandler Riggs since his tenure on several seasons of The Walking Dead as Carl – son of the post apocalyptic drama’s leading man, Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln).
Well, Riggs is looking set to continue shedding his kid actor typecasting, with Deadline reporting that he will be starring alongside Samantha Isler (of Molly’s Game fame) in an indie dramedy titled Breakup Season.
The film, from the mind of debut writer and director H. Nelson Tracey, follows a young couple who take the leap of meeting Riggs’ character’s family over the Christmas holiday, which doesn’t go particularly smoothly and leads to a number of complications.
Breakup Season will also star Jacob Wysocki, James Urbaniak, Brook Hogan, Carly Stewart, and Kailey Rhodes.
Riggs’ costar, Samatha Isler, is best known for her role in Molly’s Game, as well as Captain Fantastic, and a number of television appearances in Sean Saves the World and Supernatural.
It almost feels like a lifetime has gone by since The Walking Dead took a huge left turn from the comics and killed off Carl, back in 2018 during the show’s eighth season, as the star was nearing his 18th birthday. Of course, he did return in a cameo capacity for the show’s finale.
Riggs himself was blindsided by the decision to be written out. Months before he discovered Carl’s fate, he had purchased a home near where The Walking Dead was shooting, per an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
