Star Wars: The Last Jedi Comic Book Adaptation Features New Material

While there are Star Wars fans out there who would rather forget the film ever happened, those of us who enjoyed The Last Jedi have several chances to now revisit Episode VIII in an extended form. The Blu-Ray release of the movie, for instance, will include 20 minutes of deleted footage, while the novelization contains original sequences such as Han Solo's funeral.

But that’s not all. Marvel’s comic book adaptation of The Last Jedi promises to feature “never-before-seen material.” What exactly it’ll consist of is currently unknown, but here’s how the company is describing the upcoming release:

This May, writer Gary Whitta (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Star Wars Rebels) joins artist Michael Walsh (Star Wars Annual, Hawkeye, The Vision) for a thrilling adaptation of the hit blockbuster STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI, as they follow Rey, Poe and Finn in their adventures across the galaxy, featuring never-before-seen material!

The six-issue miniseries tells an all-new, exciting story that movie and comic fans alike will enjoy. It’s new Star Wars stories in a tale you already know: relive the magic of Rey’s heroism, Finn’s bravery and Poe’s daringness in STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI ADAPTATION, out this May!

Again, we’ve no idea what this fresh material could be at the moment, but we imagine that there will be some crossover with the deleted scenes from the DVD/Blu-ray release and the material created for the novelization. Hopefully, though, we’ll also get some scenes that are totally unique to the comic book adaptation.

At least we know the series is in good hands. Writer Gary Whitta is an experienced Star Wars scribe, having previously adapted Rogue One: A Star Wars Story for Marvel and also having penned several episodes of Star Wars Rebels on TV. Even if Rian Johnson isn’t involved with the comic book, as he was with the novelization, then at least someone else who knows the franchise back to front is on the case.

The Last Jedi adaptation also sports art from Mike Spice and covers from Mike Del Mundo and Joe Quesada. The first two issues are both set to arrive in comic book stores on May 2nd and as we continue to learn more, we’ll be sure to let you know.
