It’s always nice to see influential artists receive the accolades they deserve – even if it’s arguably a year late. Music streaming platform Spotify recently recognized a handful of artists, tracks and albums in its annual Year In Music top lists, naming Kygo their “breakout artist of 2015.”

Citing the success of Kygo songs like “Firestone” and “Stole the Show” for the title, the Spotify team somewhat arbitrarily based their decision on the fact that the Norwegian producer was the first Spotlight artist to reach 1 billion streams.

Upon receiving the honor, Kygo said, “2015 has been a crazy year for me, and Spotify have supported me right from the start. It’s an honour to be their Breakout Artist of the year, and I’m super excited to see what we can do together in 2016!”

Even if by all other metrics Kygo‘s breakout year was 2014, it makes him no less deserving of the title and we’re thrilled to see him earn the recognition.
