After a short but heated legal dispute, Playstation 3 jailbreaker George “Geohot” Hotz and Sony reached “an agreement in principle” on March 31, 2011. According to the statement released on the Playstation Blog, “Hotz consented to a permanent injunction”, meaning he basically got a slap on the wrist and he promises he won’t pull anything like this again. The rest of the terms of the settlement are confidential.

“It was never my intention to cause any users trouble or to make piracy easier,” said Hotz, “I’m happy to have the litigation behind me.” In the process, Hotz was also absolved of any involvement in the recent attacks on Sony’s internet services and websites by the hacktivist group Anonymous.

Hotz announced on his blog that he is joining the Sony boycott and he “will never purchase another SONY product.” Can you really blame him? He also promises that “there is much more to come on this blog.” So stay tuned, this could get interesting.
