Much has been made about Skrillex‘s activities over New Year’s Eve weekend, including his joint performance of “Sorry” with Justin Bieber, as well as the cringeworthy interview he and Marshmello held down with CNN. However, fans may have glossed over a more noteworthy offering from the producer, namely what appears to be a new ID he dropped in his set over the weekend.
Ahead of his stint in Miami for New Year’s Eve itself, Skrillex stopped off in Washington, DC on December 30 for a performance at Echostage. After starting things off with “Rock And Roll (Will Take You To The Mountain),” the OWSLA head honcho transitions into some unreleased material. The ID in question features electrifying four on the floor rhythms, paired with screeching synths and growling bass.
Video footage of the performance has surfaced on /r/Skrillex, where some listeners have pointed out that the track may have previously been teased on Snapchat, with others pointing out similarities to “Bassline Skanka” and “Coast Is Clear.”
Considering Skrillex‘s massive backlog of unreleased music, there’s no telling when or if “DC ID” will surface, but we’ll keep you posted as more information becomes available.
