Well, someone had to say it, and perhaps it’s all too fitting that Jameela Jamil, ever the outspoken gift to humanity, was the one to do it, complete with all the unabashed gusto that Titania would unleash upon her opponents.
Indeed, one doesn’t have to peer very far into the past of Karl Lagerfeld, the late fashion designer and theme inspiration of the 2023 Met Gala, to conclude why he maybe wasn’t the most tactful choice for one of the world’s most illustrious fashion and celebrity events, but thanks to a handy round-up on a recent Instagram post from the Good Place star, one barely has to dig at all.
In her lengthy post, which documents Lagerfeld’s heinous attitudes towards women, plus-sized bodies, Muslims, and the Me Too movement, Jamil didn’t hold back in calling out the Met Gala committee’s decision to style this year’s event after the German designer, who stated in 2007 that his contentious image was entirely an act, which we all know by now isn’t the get-out-of-jail-free card that too many people seem to take it for.
Jamil would go on to criticize the committee’s choice not only because of the myriad of other, infinitely-less controversial options that were available, but of the hypocrisy that such a decision comes saddled with; “You don’t get to stand for justice in these areas, and then attend the celebration of someone who reveled in his own public disdain for marginalized people,” wrote the actress.
Vogue may not be too keen on keeping a relationship going with Jamil after this, but the She-Hulk star has never been afraid to stand tall on her emotionally and intellectually-sincere values, and she continues to set an example that the world is in dire need of following.
