Cries of creative turmoil be damned, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story adorns the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, heralding the return of an old foe in Darth Vader.

Yes, the inclusion of the galaxy’s original menace was all but confirmed during the spinoff’s storied development, with reports claiming that Disney and Lucasfilm even opted to water down the Vader sequence. However that may be, fans can at least take solace in the fact that Anakin Skywalker’s warped Jedi will feature in some capacity.

Entertainment Weekly goes on to tease a flurry of exciting story tidbits, so if you’re wary of spoilers, it’s best to remain on this side of the jump.

Still with us? In line with the actor’s own comments, Mads Mikkelsen will indeed play father to Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), one described as a brilliant scientist whose knowledge is deemed indispensable to both sides of the Force. There’s also the promise of character bios for Diego Luna, Jiang Wen, Donnie Yen, Riz Ahmed, Forest Whitaker, and Alan Tudyk, with the latter on board to play a “performance-capture droid.”

Perhaps most intriguing of all, though, is the promise that EW will shed light on those fiercely contested reshoots. Upwards of 40 percent of Rogue One is reportedly being subjected to some form of creative tinkering, and Disney has revealed that Tony Gilroy has been drafted in to oversee those reshoots. Despite such an intensive overhaul, though, Mads Mikkelsen has gone on record to say that Edwards’ vision remains the same.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story shoots for theaters on December 16. Until then, you can feast your eyes on the full cover of Gareth Edwards’ militaristic spinoff, below.
