Nintendo kicked off their E3 conference with the official reveal of a sequel that’s been a long time coming: Pikmin 3 for the Wii U.
Designer Shigeru Miyamoto showed various clips of footage from the game, going into how the console’s HD graphics capabilities allow for more of the game to be displayed without sacrificing detail. Pikmin were shown building bridges, along with a new type of Rock Pikmin. Players will switch between four different characters at a time; series protagonist Captain Olimar’s absence was explained as a “secret”.
Two different control schemes will be supported. The Wii Remote and Nunchuk will be used to issue commands and aim the throws of Pikmin, while the Wii U Game Pad will display the level map on its touchscreen, allowing for what Miyamoto described as a deeper, more strategic experience.
We will keep you updated as more is revealed about Pikmin 3.
