Looks like we’re getting another John Wick movie as it was confirmed during Lionsgate’s Q4 earnings call and fans are over the moon.

Most franchises are pretty much dead on arrival by their fourth entry, or at the very least, the quality has significantly declined to the point that the films are just fractions of their own former glory. If a film series does make it to a fifth entry, it’s rarely welcomed with open arms by the fans. Films like Transformers, Die Hard, or Pirates of the Caribbean are all examples of franchises that started strong but ended in a big ol’ pile of disappointment (although Transformers has made a comeback).

Maybe it’s just because the John Wick films are so consistently amazing every time that fans don’t seem even slightly concerned by the prospect of a fifth film. It’s hard to pick a favorite out of the four so far as the sequels have all managed to keep the momentum of the first one. As long as it’s the same team and cast, then there’s no reason to worry, right? Fans have been gleefully expressing their excitement for the new film online as they celebrate the news.

“On one hand it would suck if they made John Wick 5

On the other hand, these movie’s absolutely f**king rule and i would be there day one.”

“I am in favor of John Wick 5 and i think John never died in Chapter 4 and it was purely a misdirection in case the movie didnt do crazy at the box office. Ending was vague enough to say its the last one if it didnt do well but left it open just enough if it did great”

Chapter 4 did give a definitive end to Wick’s story, and some fans (in the minority) think it’s just best to leave his story at that. After all, we’ve had four solid action films, why tempt fate with a fifth?

“There is no need for John Wick 5. Sometimes you just have to learn to quit while you’re ahead.”

A fifth film does sort of feel like beating a dead horse, not because the films have lost their spark but because the protagonist is literally dead. If you don’t remember, he died at the end of the fourth film, so where could the plot go from there? It’s pretty inconvenient for a sequel focusing on a dead guy, unless they plan to make a two-hour time lapse of his body decomposing.

But, come on. This is John Wick we’re talking about, the Baba Yaga, he’s pretty much gun Jesus — having him rise from the grave would be perfectly in-character for him. Fans have already started speculating on how he’ll be returning for his fifth outing in a hilarious fashion.

We can only imagine how the fifth film will explain the ending of the last movie, but however they do it, we’re just pleased to be getting another one of these insane films. The franchise made a billion dollars across the four films, so a fifth is practically inevitable; no way would Lionsgate stop the money train now. Even director Chad Stahelski hinted that the ending of the last movie meant nothing. So, hold on tight — looks like more John Wick is on the way.
