Nintendo sent out invites today for a Wii U press event being held on September 13th in New York City, where the company will tell us “more about how the Wii U will change the future of gaming and entertainment”. Which is super-secret PR code for the console’s release date, price point, and software launch lineup.
Kotaku notes, that the last time this type of Nintendo event took place in New York City was in January 2011, when Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime announced the launch plans for the 3DS. A few years prior to that press event, Reggie was also in NYC showing off the Wii’s launch lineup.
When you combine Reggie’s NYC travel history with the recent Best Buy pre-order rumors, I’d say that we should all prepare ourselves to be “pleasantly surprised” when he surprises us with the Wii U‘s launch plans on September 13th.
