[Update] Nintendo has contacted WeGotThisCovered to let us know that Netflix has been confirmed for Wii U Nintendo TVii in Canada. Details are coming soon.
During their Wii U press conference today Nintendo announced Nintendo TVii for the Wii U. A free service that will bring together all of the user’s TV viewing options, and allow them to watch movies, sports, and TV via the Wii U.
Nintendo TVii is a sort of personal programming guide for the console. It will simultaneously display a list of content from Live TV, Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon Prime, and even the users own DVR. Additionally, each person with a profile on the Wii U can personalize their own program recommendations, so that they can easily find the content they want to watch.
Once the user finds what they are looking for using they can then select how they want to view the content using the GamePad (Live TV, Netflix, Hulu Plus, etc.) and launch it through the Wii U.
While watching the content on their TV screen Nintendo TVii will provide additional information about the show, movie, or sports program on the Wii U GamePad, and allow the user to interact with it using social media channels.
Nintendo TVii will be included for free with every Wii U purchase, and there is no additional monthly subscription fee to access the service.
