Netflix had an interesting way of helping lonely singles see the brighter side of not having a significant other on Valentine’s Day — by mentioning Joe Goldberg from the hit series You.
The central premise of You, which premiered on the streaming service in 2019 despite previously airing on Lifetime, follows Joe Goldberg as he attempts to have a more prominent — if extremely dangerous — role in a woman’s life that he is obsessing over, even if it means stalking her, and/or being involved in the murders of those around her. Penn Badgley plays the lead character in the series.
On Feb. 13, on Netflix’s official Twitter account, the person controlling the social media page told fans while sharing a photo of a billboard that they shouldn’t feel disheartened because they are single on the holiday of love, but grateful that they don’t have a Valentine like Joe Goldberg.
The tweet read, “If at any point this week you feel bummed that you’re single, think about it like this: It could be worse, Joe Goldberg could be your Valentine.” Shortly after Netflix’s tweet, the official Twitter account for the series You responded, “Single life looking better and better.”
Since the fourth season of You premiered on Netflix last week, the series has been breaking records. As previously reported, You has taken the top spot in 59 countries and is also in Netflix’s top 10 in 89 countries. In addition to the positive reactions from fans, critics also enjoyed You because it keeps audience members guessing who the actual killer is this season.
You is now streaming on Netflix.
