We haven’t heard much about Metal Gear Solid: Rising since it was announced at E3 a few years ago. At the VGAs, however, Hideo Kojima had the stage for the last few moments to reveal the new direction the game is going.
First, a title change. The previous Metal Gear Solid: Rising is now the much easier to say Metal Gear Rising: Revengence. No, that’s not a typo, Kojima is making up words again.
Second, it was revealed that Kojima Productions is now only producing Metal Gear Rising. Development duties have now fallen to the folks at Platinum Games, the guys behind Bayonetta, Vanquish and MadWorld. It should be noted that Platinum Games is made largely of people from the now defunct Clover Studios, the folks responsible for Okami, which I’ve listed as my favorite game of all time.
Not enough new info for you? Well we’ve also got a full three minute long trailer showing off the expected cutting gameplay and Raiden being an all-around badass by lifting up a giant freaking robot.
Seriously. My jaw literally dropped when I saw this trailer. It’s oozing with the same over-the-top action style that Platinum Games is known for.
Sorry, the video is currently unavailable.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengence is scheduled for release sometime in 2012.
What say you, gamers? Can you believe this is the same Raiden we all hated in Metal Gear Solid 2?
