It has been tough few years for the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Avengers: Endgame, as for every time it has won, there have been five other ways it lost its fandom’s faith. So, when Secret Invasion revealed Rhodey — aka War Machine — has been replaced by a Skrull imposter and Kevin Feige flamed the flames by adding Tony’s best friend has been stuck in an induced coma in the Skrull’s camp even before Phase Four started, MCU decided to cash in on the surprised gasps the twist managed to earn… only to be reprimanded for the wrong move.
Though Secret Invasion’s revelation was expected by many ever since it was announced Rhodey will be a part of the Disney Plus series, it was Feige deepening the mystery that added a new hype to the plot twist — exactly how long has Rhodey been a Skrull in the MCU? Was it after Civil War? Was Tony fighting alongside a fake version of his friend during Endgame? Hopefully, this one will get a logical answer because we already have our plates full with the eight things about Secret Invasion that make absolutely no sense.
So, the official Twitter page of Marvel Studios went ahead and kicked open a discussion about the elephant in the room.
This attracted a bit of curiosity-fueled interactions as answers ranged from Falcon and the Winter Soldier to knowing since Secret Invasion’s trailer dropped. But many are pissed that the studio didn’t follow the ethical rule of not dropping spoilers, at least not without any warning — even though the 4th episode aired last Wednesday.
While we understand the disappointment of being exposed to spoilers, it is not a good idea to expect a series to not hype its next episode with the gold hidden in its previous episode, especially when Marvel is already having a hard time shepherding viewers to its TV creations. This can be employed in the case of films, something which Marvel follows with strict determination and even requests its fans to observe. So, in case you are planning to watch Secret Invasion in one go, better accept social media as a landmine of spoilers that can’t be culled.
